KIKUYU HOSPITAL CELEBRATES 100 YEARS.

Word from the Chairperson, Centenary Celebrations

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I would like to welcome you all to this web page dedicated to the 100 years celebrations of our hospital that opened doors in September 1908 to provide healthcare and spiritual guidance to our parents and grand parents.

As I welcome you to share the hospitals milestones, I want you to join me in thanking God, for without him, what we see here today would not be; we have witnessed divine intervention in every step of the one hundred years journey.

The first divine intervention, you will all agree with me, is that the first missionary, Dr. Arthur or “Dagitari” as he was fondly known; settled here in Kikuyu. He would have gone elsewhere in the country but God knew the plans he had for the people of Kikuyu and for all those others who come from miles and miles away, and, indeed, beyond our boundaries, for specialized treatment.

It is with this deep appreciation and humility to our heavenly Father that we are organizing the centenial celebrations. The celebrations are a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness as is evidenced in our successes in the last century, and now in this planning phase for the next century.

We are aware that through God’s grace, we have received so much, and we want to give back to society. We are therefore by organizing a series of medical camps, health talks in churches and schools; these activities will culminate in one large celebration here at the hospital and a gala diner hosted to thank our partners who have tirelessly continued to support our different areas of specialization.

I wish to note with great satisfaction that the hospital in all these years has been firmly grounded on the Christian principles that the Presbyterian Church upholds. And even as we deeply uphold these values, we have exemplified them further by ensuring that the hospital does not discriminate in the provision of services. I am proud to day that even in our outreach programmes our choices are not church driven but need driven. Our latest example of this is the recent eye camp in Dadaab refugee camp at the boarder of Kenya and Somalia less than 2 months ago. We are looking forward to hosting similar camps in Nairobi’s Eastlands area, in Mathioya and to host a medical caravan that will start in Isinya, Kajiado through Kibwezi and Mashuru to Nairobi.

My brothers & sisters, my committee has a big dream, and we are confident that our heavenly father will intervene to ensure that we host the most memorable centenial celebrations held in this part of the country.

Please join us in the celebrations and God bless you

Mrs. Wairimu Nyoike

Chairman, Centenary Celebrations Organizing Committee.
