When you mention Kikuyu Hospital, it does not matter where you are; the eye unit comes to mind. But that is only half the story about Kikuyu hospital. There is much more. The upcoming centenary celebrations which will be celebrated in September 2008, will give Kenyans and indeed the entire world a much more in-depth look at what this hospital is all about. -

Kikuyu Hospital offers fully fledged state of the art hospital with specialized units units units units units units units units  that include the Eye unit, Low vision and ENT. Others are the Dental Unit; and the Orthopedic and rehabilitation centre. Indeed the hospital houses the most affordable yet, state of art prosthesis unit in the country.

The Heritage of the hospital will be further captured through interviews with those that have been instrumental in helping it get to where it has to date. These narrations that will reflect great sacrifice and dedication will be documented in a book.

As gratitude to God for the success and growth, he has endowed upon the hospital, medical camps will be carried out across Kenya. One of these camps took place earlier in the year to help the Internally Displaced People in Limuru, following post election violence that rocked the country. Medical treatment and food was offered to sustain the Internally Displaced. Kikuyu hospital went a step further and held a free eye treatment camp for the Somali refugees in Daadab.

To mark Kikuyu Hospital’s Centenary, a number of activities have taken place and more exciting ones yet to happen before September, this year. Topical and educative health talks to communities, churches and schools by the hospital staff take off in the month of May.

As part of its future plans, the hospital is linking opportunities to liaise with universities and other hospitals for training and development of specialties to facilitate training of staff. In addition Kikuyu hospital envisions housing a modern state of the art accident and emergency unit, an ICU, a 400 hospital bed, a doctor’s plaza and training school.
